Baby, It's Cold Outside

It was a white Christmas, a white New Year, and a generally icy mess down here where the city doesn't plow. Working conditions in the garage were intolerable.

Layers helped to mitigate the cold around the toes and the core, but when you work with your hands layers turn you into a bumbling fool.

A dear friend of mine told me that he had a propane heater, sitting unused for years, that I could test out.

Is the garage still cold? Yes, it is the dead of Winter. However, I can now feel my face and fingers again (and it really helps to dry out project pieces that were caught out in the snow).

I think that friend just earned himself a bird house.

...but that was last week. As I look out across snow capped roofs I'm amazed that in two days time they are predicting temps double what they are currently.

65° in January? Sure, you know where to find me.

#35

This commission came in as a Christmas present for the man's wife. Cell phone photos of the kids were provided for image transfer. I chose the most appropriate image of the son and daughter sitting in an apple tree, then applied acrylic paints after transfer to enhance details.

The body is made from reclaimed trim moulding and pallet wood, with salvaged  hardware.

The Tree House can sit atop a table or hang from a hole in the back. Nest access through the roof.
Approximately 20" tall by 5 1/2" w/l.

The son, upper right, offers an apple.

The Wanderer

#34 The Wanderer

The Wanderer represents Odin's sacrifice at the Well of Mimir. (gave his right eye for Wisdom) The stag bones hint to his conversation with the Giant Vafthrudner, and are from the largest deer I've ever found (Licking County). The ring, tho not Rhinegold, nor that of the Nibelungen, holds together many fates that are interwoven into the Destiny of the All-Father. The split spindle represents the duality of Odin walking as a Man.

The Wanderer can sit atop a table or hang from a hole in the back.
Approximately 19" tall by 5 1/2" w/l. Bones, Rope, Pallet wood, spindle.
